Michael Mitchell

 

Michael Mitchell has a long history in Scouting.  He received his 25-year veteran pin in September 2010 having been registered since he was in 1st grade in 1985.  He is an Eagle Scout from Troop 22 in Wichita Falls.  He grew up in Henrietta and is a 1997 graduate of Henrietta High School but chose a Scout Troop in Wichita Falls because his father had a practice there at the time. 

Michael is a 2002 graduate of Oklahoma State University with a B.S. in Leisure Services Management (Outdoor Rec. and Edu. and Non-Profit Management).  Prior to graduation, Michael worked a variety of jobs, most of them being in the automotive parts and repair business but he also served time as a newspaper printer, lifeguard, mechanic, and various other occupations.
  
Michael started his professional Scouting career with the Concho Valley Council in San Angelo, TX in January, 2003.  Prior to that he served as an intern with the Indian Nations Council in Tulsa OK and a program Counselor at the YO Ranch Adventure Camp in Mountain Home, TX during the fall of 2002.  He promoted as a Senior District Executive to the Northwest Texas Council in July, 2005.  He has led his districts to Quality District several times over the years and has consistently met finance and membership goals.  He is also active in several organizations in Wichita Falls.  He is currently serving as the Junior Warden with Wichita Falls Masonic Lodge #635.  He is also serving as the Membership Chair for the Founder Lions Club in Wichita Falls.

Michael’s hobbies include buying, repairing and selling mechanical stuff (Cars, ATV’s, Campers, etc.).  He also enjoys riding his Harley Davidson and ATV’s, reading (biographies and true stories mostly), working on his house and spending time with family. Michael has been married to Jessica for eight years in December, 2010.  Jessica is a 7th grade science teacher at McNeil Junior High in Wichita Falls, TX and a 1998 graduate of Wichita Falls High School.  They have one daughter together, Lorelei.  She will be four in 2011. Michael’s Motto is “Work Hard, Play Hard, Eat Good”; he learned this while a member of Trail Crew H at Philmont Scout Ranch in 1996.  IWTGBTP – if you know what this stands for, you know what he means.  Just ask him!
 
Born to Michael and Sunny Mitchell in 1979 in Oklahoma City, OK, his father, Michael, is a Family Practice Physician specializing in Diabetes Management in Bowie, TX.  His mother, Sunny, is a technology teacher and administrator for Bellevue ISD in Bellevue, TX.  He has one sister, Lexi, who graduated from Medical School (Des Moines University) and is currently a Resident at Christus Santa Rosa in San Antonio where she lives with her husband Francisco.
