Again it's hard to believe that we are in the last half of February.  This month we have seen the Report to State, Merit Badge College, and this Friday the Auction.  At last Saturday's merit badge college there were at least 185 scouts, 100 who showed up that morning, thanks to chairman Blaney Eathorn, he made it work.  I had several great visits with scout leaders and other volunteers from the community.

This Friday we will hold our Auction, please make plans to attend today, the team has put together a wonderful program, now we need more people to show up and bid.

As always, the spring will be packed with activities: March will kick it off with a Council Pinewood Derby then in April we will have the Rendezvous, Conclave, OA Ordeal, and  in May the Scout O Rama, and Cub N Pal.

Don't forget to recharter in April, thanks to Shari this process is now online.

Some times life sets you back a little; on Labor Day 2009 my left shoulder just went out and caused quite a problem for me but finally on Friday November 13 I had surgery and am much better now, still doing rehab to get shoulder back to 100% currently about 50% back.

Last fall we all stayed very busy working in school roundups, training, and several camping opportunities for which I must say they all turned out quite well.

Now its 2010 and we are in the year of celebrating our 100th National Birthday.  We hope that all units will plan several events with the anniversary in mind.  If you have any questions or need help in planning your events we have a key board member that will be glad to offer assistance, just let us know.

It is hard to believe that school starts in just under three weeks and we are still seeing and hearing about scouts camping, what a wonderful summer.  On Friday July 31st we had about 60 family members from Sheppard AFB enjoy Perkins pool and this week the band from Burkburnett High School will take a dip.  It is great to see our camp being utilized by other groups, the word is spreading and people are responding.

As you get ready for the fall school season don't forget about your family, take time to be with the ones you love.

Wow, what a wonderful week at Philmont!  Your council was well represented at the council and district key 3 training held at the greatest camping facility in the USA, Philmont.  We had Council President, Charles Salter, District Chairman Ray Broyhill, District Commissioner Norman Leonard, District Executive Aaron Otto, and myself attend.  We spent the entire week learning how to better operate the council and district.  There was also time to enjoy the wonderful mountains and breath the fresh air.

If you have not participated in the Philmont experience, make plans now to attend a training session in 2010, you just gotta go.  There are no words to describe what you get.

Thanks to Charles, Ray, Norm, and Aaron for taking the time to learn the real value of scouting.

Several weeks ago we also had Russell Martin, David Potter, and ranger Steve Sells attend a Philmont training experience.  They too are excited about what they learned and how they are ready to share. And Betsy O'Connor will be attending next week for Roundtable Training.  She's looking forward to visiting with other Scouters and learning new ideas for roundtable.

Here's the cool part about this summers Philmont training sessions, of the eight that attended, it was a first for five.  Five more scouters touched by Philmont!  When you see these guys, tell them thanks.

Wow, what a wonderful week at camp Perkins.  After the last two weeks of working with our BSA camps, this week we had about 120 High School students on Thursday and 52 Boys and Girls Club youth from Burkburnett participate in Disc golf, swimming, rifle, archery, soccer, and overall fun.  Next week we will have about 100 youth from the YMCA attend Perkins for some of the same.  This is what camp Perkins is for, to use.

Thanks to all for helping make this week and next a success for the High Schools, Boys and Girls club, and YMCA.

Five of our own Scouts served as lifeguards, way to go!

Well we all know that during the summer we all want our scouts to get some experience in the outdoors especially in the summer.  I know that over the last two weeks over 155 scouts participated in Day camp, Webelos resident camp, and our first three day Boy Scout camp.  While I was at camp Perkins walking around visiting with staff and scouts it was great to see that the scouts were smiling, laughing, eating, getting dirty, and just overall having fun.  I commend the wonderful staff of adults and young adults that spent the two weeks living at Perkins and making Scouting come alive.

I visited last week with one of the contingent leaders of our Philmont group that just returned and they had an absolutly awesome time.  That is what we like to here.  This is exciting to me since I too enjoy the great outdoors and look forward to backpacking in the wilderness as often as I can which today is at best once a year.  What better way to recharge.
